Photographer Brian MacDonald and Justin Ahrens, Senior Graphic Designer and Principal at Rule 29 will be presenting at the Apple Store (North Michigan Ave.) on Thursday, January 10. MacDonald owner of Wonderkind Studios started collaborating with Ahrens working for nonprofit organizations in 2007. Their partnership has taken them across the globe to the slums of Mercado, Ethiopia to Nairobi and it’s largest slum Kibera, and oldest slum Mathare Valley. These two slums in Nairobi house over 350,000 people.
The collaboration of photography and design is integral to communicating the story of non-profits, and the innovative life saving work they perform. Having personal interaction with individuals fighting daily for survival has changed Brian’s and Justin’s outlook on life. They now feel a responsibility to use their skills to make the world a better place.
Brian and Justins’s talk focuses on the importance of working on projects that spark emotional growth. The importance of taking projects that may not be financially rewarding but are personally demanding and creatively enriching. And, come out to see the final produced work – beautiful imagery married with smart design – in brochures, books and motion video.
Brian MacDonald is a photographer, director and owner of Wonderkind Studios. He began his photography career 20 years ago and now uses all visual mediums – photography, motion and animation to communicate a story.
